E-Safety Advice and Guidance for Parents

Here at Greenwood Tree Academy Trust we wish to provide parents with support for online safety that is appropriate for the age groups that we teach. 50% of incidents on line are from non-contact abuse through images and live streaming. Offenders access popular apps which attract specific age groups. There is a need for pupils to recognise manipulative chat such as blackmail, threats, bribery, gifts, compliments etc.

As with most technologies systems are constantly being upgraded and becoming more sophisticated a key message for all our families is to recognise that the use of technology can be positive but it is the behaviour around the technology that becomes a threat. As long as the use of the internet is safe and structured can be positive risk.

Further documents that we adhere to and reference to keep our children safe include Keeping Child Safe in Education, Internet Safety Strategy – Forward Together and Searching, Screening and Confiscation at School from the Department of Education.

Schools have access to a cyber crime prevention officer at the Dorset Police Cyber Crime Prevention Unit for advice and guidance.
